Stephanie Cruz Mendez

Stephanie Cruz Mendez (b. 1996, Miami, FL) is a photo-based visual artist whose work spans cyanotype, analog photography, and experimental collage. Her cyanotypes are shaped by handmade processes and improvisation while her analog photographs embrace quiet observation. Sometimes the two approaches converge, with analog photographs woven into cyanotype prints to create layered reflections on time and memory. Her practice reflects on reminiscence, spiritual symbolism, and what exists beyond the frame.

Cruz Mendez is currently participating in a mentorship at Lalu Studio in Brooklyn, where she continues to expand her cyanotype practice while supporting the studio’s archival and community-based work. Shaped by a diasporic life rooted between Miami and Rio de Janeiro, her relationship to place is shaped by movement, return, and emotional proximity. These lived and inherited experiences inform how she sees the world and guide her approach to image-making.
